Penang alerted to stormy weather ahead

GEORGE TOWN: Penangites are advised to brace for heavy rain and flash floods expected to hit the state on Monday and Tuesday.
State Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said yesterday the state Meteorological Department has confirmed this and issued the yellow alert warning of bad weather.
“The department has been receiving calls from worried Penangites especially after heavy rains in several parts of the world brought by super typhoon Megi,” he said.
He urged residents to alert the Penang Municipal Council and the Seberang Prai Municipal Council whose staff will be on standby to clear blocked drains and rubbish especially in housing areas.
